OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY FOR CHILDREN WITH COMPLEX NEEDS

Paediatric Occupational Therapy for children with Complex Needs - working with families and in special schools

Learn about evidence-based Occupational Therapy for children with complex needs from birth to transition to adulthood, considering the application of theory, assessment and interventions.

This is a new one day course designed as an addition to the Introduction to Paediatric Occupational Therapy course ran by OT Applied . It is aimed at Paediatric Occupational Therapists who are interested to learn from clinicians who are specialists in their field, about working in special schools and with the families of children with complex physical, sensory and learning needs . It will appeal to new graduates as well as those working in paediatrics (and other areas of OT) at band 5 or 6 level and prior knowledge of ICF and OTIPM is recommended.​

Please note that this course runs over two mornings (9am-1pm)

  • Applying ICF and OTIPM to children with complex needs

  • Service models including applying the Tiered Approach

  • Current best practice in assessment and goal setting

  • Theory in action: postural care, enabling environments and participation, specialist equipment

  • Working as part of a team with families and health and education services

  • Dealing with degenerative conditions and palliative care
